• Plaque Reduction

According to USA Today, almost a million Americans have stents placed ever year and a quarter of Americans older than 45 are perscribed statins for high cholesterol. Despite America's best efforts, over a million and a half Americans still suffer a stroke or heart attacks every year.

To reduce your risk of stroke and heart attacks, MRI Pathways has worked to develop a novel plaque reduction program that actually works, by addressing the root cause of plaque buildup, unhealthy diet and lifestyle.

  • What causes plaque buildup in my arteries?

A wide range of factors influence plaque buildup in the coronary, carotid, peripheral, and inter-cranial arteries, including:

    • Genetic pre-disposition

    • High LDL cholesterol

    • Low HDL cholesterol

    • Inflammation

    • Insulin resistance

Many of these factors can be influenced by proper diet and exercise.

  • How does MRI Pathways plaque reduction program work?
MRI Pathways plaque reduction program begins with a comprehensive   baseline of arterial plaque, visceral fat, and blood markers. This baseline allows us to estimate your future risk of stroke and heart attack in addition to measuring your metabolic health.

Based on your baseline, our physician develops an individualized   lifestyle program that can improve your metabolic health in just weeks and lead to plaque reversal in several months.

Following the baseline, we track your progress with monthly or bi-monthly MRI visceral fat scans. These follow-up scans allow us to accurately determine how your dietary changes affect your metabolic health. By combining this information with dietary information gathered from follow-up calls and consultations we can further refine and optimize your nutritional program. At the end of our program, we can rescan your arterial plaque and see the plaque reduction.

  • Is the plaque reduction program right for me?
If a previous exam has revealed plaque, we highly recommend our plaque reduction program to reduce your risk of stroke and heart attack. This is especially true for individuals who have had stents or bypass surgery. Such procedures may lower your short-term risk of stroke or heart disease, but do not reduce your long-term risk.

If you do not know the amount of plaque in your arteries, we recommend a plaque baseline to assess your current and future risk. If you have no plaque and good metabolic health, the plaque reduction program may not be required.

  • How much does the plaque reduction program cost?
Our comprehensive baseline screening is incredibly affordable, with prices starting at $199  for arterial plaque and visceral fat screening. Follow-up scans and consultations are available for as little as $100-$200 a month.
